MEC® Unveils the 135-RJ Diesel Telescopic Boom: Innovative Performance and Agility

March 25, 2025 – MEC® expands its boom lineup with the introduction of its tallest lift yet, the 135-RJ Diesel Telescopic Boom. MEC continues to lead the change in innovation and boom lift technology with the launch of the 135-RJ, engineered for exceptional reach, superior mobility, and increased efficiency on demanding worksites. Featuring a multi-directional, high-capacity jib with 135° vertical and 120° horizontal rotation, this advanced lift can navigate around and behind remote obstacles ensuring precise positioning in confined or complex environments. Shipments will begin in April 2025.

A standout feature of the 135-RJ is the Set-In-Place Axle Extension. MEC’s patented technology enables axle deployment without requiring machine movement or jacks, allowing set-up to occur in a smaller space, while minimizing tire wear or damage to the ground surface. Whether axles are extended or retracted, the 135-RJ maintains full drive capability with its four steering modes and 45-percent gradeability. This high-capacity boom lift comes in with a gross vehicle weight of 44,775 lbs. (20,304 kg) and 39’ (11.9m) stowed length which enables transport without permits – lowering acquisition and operating costs, saving time, and increasing delivery flexibility.

The 135-RJ features a crane-style multi-keel boom design that maximizes rigidity and offers a very comfortable work platform that reaches an impressive 141 ft. (43m) working height and 80 ft. (24.4m) outreach. Coupled with an 8 ft. (2.4m) multi-directional jib, the 135-RJ delivers exceptional reach versatility. Its design supports a maximum capacity of 900 lbs. (408kg) up to full height or to 70 ft. (21.33m) outreach and to 60° jib rotation. Even at its maximum 80 ft. (24.4m) outreach, this boom lift is still able to offer an industry-best for rotating jib machines with an unrestricted capacity of 600 lbs. (272kg) and 120° jib rotation providing an optimal Dual Capacity solution.

Optimized for maneuverability, the 135-RJ offers crab steer, 4-wheel steer, 2-wheel front, and 2-wheel rear steering as standard, ensuring optimal navigation and chassis positioning on-site. Engineered for operator productivity, the 135-RJ incorporates multi-function controllers, minimizing the time to full extension. The intuitive platform design eliminates the need for a footswitch, streamlining operation and enhancing ergonomics. Superior rough terrain performance is achieved with a Deutz 74hp diesel engine and the 4-wheel-drive traction system’s hydraulic differential lock, directing power to all four wheels to handle uneven terrain. Standard foam-filled rough terrain tires further reinforce traction, stability, and durability in demanding conditions.

“MEC continues to push the boundaries of boom lift innovation, designing the 135-RJ Diesel Telescopic Boom to meet the increasing needs of capacity, reach and versatility for demanding job sites,” said Brian MacFarland, Executive Vice President of MEC. “This is the ideal machine for communication tower access, steel framing and glass panel construction, with its rotating jib offering unmatched capacity and flexibility to navigate around structures. The 135-RJ sets the stage for additional “Max Series” high-performance booms from MEC, continuing our commitment to innovation, safety, and productivity.”

The MEC 135-RJ integrates cutting-edge engineering with practical design to meet the evolving demands of modern worksites and equipment rental companies. By combining reach, agility, and efficiency, it empowers operators to tackle challenging environments with confidence. With this latest advancement, MEC reinforces its commitment to innovation and productivity—continuing to deliver a better solution to the industry.
